The emPivot Site Ethics
At emPivot.com, we believe in engaging people from every background. Our goal is for our users and members to explore, watch, and share in the global conversation about sustainability and the environment. We hope and trust that you are here to engage in an open conversation about green issues while creating a positive dialog and sharing of ideas. We set out to create a site that represents choice. We believe that our inclusive setting and our content will push you to make choices about your life. We strive to engage people interested in learning more about the topics and exploring the options and resources available to them. Every member of our site — from the individual to the company — is sharing in the goal of building the most comprehensive aggregated collection of easily searchable green-related media. While members of the community hold different perspectives, we ask that you adhere to our ethics and standards for this online community.
What kind of content belongs here?
Green-related video content is media that directly relates to the environment, ecological conservation, natural resources and energy, and overall, sustainability, or for clarity, environmental sustainability. It should be clear in the content of the video and in the content of the description of a video or community groups, that content covers a green issue.
What if it’s Not Green from Any Angle? or Flagged Video Content?
Now that we have set the parameters for the type of content, we are putting some of the responsibility in the hands of our community. If you find something that doesn’t meet our basic definition of green-related video content and you don’t believe it belongs at emPivot, first spend some time considering the view point of the person who posted the video and/or post a request for clarification. If at any time it is clear to you that the video doesn’t belong on emPivot, flag the video as “Not Green from Any Angle.” Using this notification flag will not automatically remove the video. A critical mass of these flags will be one of our criteria for considering a video for removal. Read on for the other criteria and factors. Our Community Stewards: Every person will be a steward of the emPivot community at some level but we are starting to look for some dedicated users to help out around the place. We are in the process of building a group of diverse and active community members who will be the “Community Stewards” on the site and provide valued advice to the emPivot team. These Stewards will not have any final say or voting power to remove content. However, these Community Stewards will act to promote a diversity of content while also noting inappropriate content so that certain flagged videos are not missed and can be monitored by the emPivot team. The Community Steward application will be available soon. Review Process and Final Decisions: Yes, we have the right to make the final decision if a video stays or goes, but we rely on you to set the culture of acceptance. We will use our this right sparingly and in respect to the community we ask for that respect back. We will use multiple factors to help identify inappropriate content. Unless content is in violation of our Terms of Service we will not pull the video down until our full review process is completed. These are the factors which will elevate a video to being considered for take down: (Infractions of our Terms of Service do not fall under this emPivot
- A critical mass of “Not Green from Any Angle” flags and/or
- Our Community Stewards bring a video to our attention
Upon the determination that a video needs to be reviewed, emPivot will:
- Send an email to the owner of the content informing them that their video is under review
- In the email we will state a length of time the user has to respond with any clarifications regarding the purpose of the video
- Begin reviewing the situation
- During this duration, the video will stay on the emPivot site and can be viewed by anyone.
What Not to Put on the Site:
There are items that fall under a higher order of scrutiny and our Site Ethics alone won’t protect our users from people with malicious intent. To learn what is illegal and not acceptable at all to put on the site click here.
