SkyTruth is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that uses pictures of our planet taken from orbiting satellites, shot from airplanes, and snapped by folks on the ground to help illustrate the effects of human activities on natural systems and landscapes. So far, much of our work has focused on the impacts of hardrock mining (especially gold mining) around the world; mountaintop removal mining for coal in Appalachia; and energy development, particularly natural-gas drilling, on public lands throughout the Rocky Mountain West. 

At SkyTruth we're embracing new "virtual globe" technologies like Google Earth to reach a growing, web-connected community of people concerned about our environment and looking for ways to help.
